Dining
Oh dear, here we go again.
Whenever I start to work on the restaurant info for Lipstick Getaways, I always have the hardest time trying to stick to my “keep it simple” guidelines.
And with over 7,000 restaurants to choose from — top fine dining destinations, cozy bistros, fun wine bars, trendy fusion hotspots, steak houses, plus those famous deep-dish pizza and hot dogs — Chicago is proving to be no exception.
I am currently hard at work on this section. Here’s what I have for you so far:
- Links to some terrific “For More Info” resources (below) where you can search for Chicago restaurants by neighborhood, cuisine, reviews, price, etc.
- Are you a real foodie, or maybe just looking for a splurge?
Click here for my hand-picked guide to some of Chicago’s top celebrity-chef restaurants.
You’ll find names, addresses, phone numbers, El directions, and links to the restaurants’ websites. - About that famous Chicago pizza: click here for a guide to some of the best pies in town.
COMING SOON:
I’m still working on a guide to Lipstick Getaways’ favorite Chicago restaurants, listed by neighborhood. As soon as it’s ready, I’ll let you know and post a link to it on this page.
FOR MORE INFO on Chicago Dining:
My favorite two resources:
- Citysearch www.chicago.citysearch.com. Free site, easy to browse and search, includes addresses, phone numbers, hours, links, maps, directions, editorial and user reviews.
- Zagat Survey www.zagat.com. Free membership allows access to lists, reviews, maps, menus; however for full access, including ratings and refined searches, you need the premium membership (about $25/year, or $5 for a 30-day trial). For me, it’s definitely worthwhile. If you don’t travel much, probably not. Zagat also publishes yearly pocket-sized dining guides to a variety of cities — available on their website, as well as on Amazon and local bookstores.
Other good resources:
- Chicago Magazine www.chicagomag.com. Articles, reviews, and searchable database. And here’s a link to a Chicago Magazine article on Best New Restaurants of 2007.
- Metromix www.chicago.metromix.com. Chicago entertainment guide from the Chicago Tribune.
